Following a penalty that struck the springboard during the 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris, Team USA diver Alison Gibson finally spoke up. American diver Gibson, 25, took home the 2017 NCAA diving title.
She won the U.S. Olympic Trails, enabling her and her partner Krysta Palmer to qualify for the 2020 Olympics in the women’s synchronised 3-meter springboard, despite their intense battle during the dives.
In the 3-meter synchro FINA USA Grand Prix event in 2019, she took home the gold medal.
Three years ago, she nearly gave up on diving in the synchronised springboard event after placing last at the Tokyo Games.
Through the nonprofit organisation Missions of Hope International, she is sponsoring a school-age child in Kenya, and she hopes her Olympic experience will shine through in all the group does.

Additionally, the footage captures her tucked in preparation for a somersault just before her feet made a loud, unexpected collision with the springboard.
The crowd gasped as Gibson plummeted into the water, and her attempt was deemed to be a non-dive.
She completed the final four dives without mishap, earning a total score of 198.30. However, the zero point kept her from moving on to the semi-finals.

“This was my first dive at the Paris twenty twenty-four Olympics in my 15 years of diving,” “This has never happened to me. My feet were bleeding. My heels were painfully bruised from hitting the board. And everybody on the pool deck thought I was going to scratch. “But I didn’t scratch.“I kept my chin up and I kept fighting until the end of that event,” “This was far from the outcome I wanted, but I fought with everything I had to represent my country as well as I could and I’m proud of that.“To those on the outside, this may look like an embarrassing failure. But to me this journey to the Olympics has been anything but a failure.”

My heart and my body hurt, but I know that this competition does not and will not define me. If you have a moment when you feel like all is lost, don’t give up hope. You are beautifully and wonderfully made.
